2019-2020 Recipient

Congratulations to Gaomomee Yang for being the recipient of the 2019-2020 Hmong Students Association of Carolina Scholarship!

“After college, I want to enter medical school to become a healthcare professional. I hope to accomplish this because growing up in a small town it was rare to find one who spoke the language that my family and I speak; therefore my parents were always reluctant to seek help with their health problems. I would like to bridge this language gap, not only for my parents but also for the wider Hmong community as well. After completing my education, I want to return to my hometown and establish my own healthcare clinic. With the knowledge, I will attain by pursuing higher education, I will be able to aid those in the Hmong community and help decrease barriers in one area for the healthcare industry. With this career choice and goal in mind, I hope to inspire and mentor those who are younger than me to break down other barriers–such as other languages, class, or locality–in the healthcare industry, to make it more accessible to everyone.”
